Kingfisher birds are known as fabulous and rare animals that seek their habitat mainly along rivers and streams. They have very few to face. As soon as they appear, they are already gone. The graceful bird, also known as a "flying gem," has many secrets that can not be aired by the biologists Margret Bunzel-Drüke and Olaf Zimball despite three decades of research. Even quite the opposite: instead of answers, they find new questions in the behavior of the kingfishers.
Why, for example, do they usually breed seven eggs and leave a litter of three or four eggs on the left? And why is only a small part of the winter going south, while the others are fighting for survival in the cold? Also the choice of partner of the kingfishers raises questions: Who with whom on what occasion?
All rights reserved. In the last 30 years, approximately 17,756 birds have already caught, measured, weighed and examined to find answers. For the last two years the photographer Klaus Nigge has accompanied her. At least his stereotypical behavior was beneficial: he could rely on the bird first to bathe after his visit to the cave, then to fly a branch, and thereafter to go fishing for an eternity.
